Mirror neurons: Professor Giacomo Rizzolatti to speak at LUISS

On June 9, 2014 at 3:30 p.m., in the Sala delle Colonne at Viale Pola 12, LUISS will host a workshop conducted by Prof. Giacomo Rizzolatti, the senior scientist of the research group that discovered “mirror neurons,” considered fundamental for research in the field of neuroscience.

He is an emeritus professor in physiology at the University of Parma and the director of the "Social and Motor Cognition" Center at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT). In 2014 he received the “Brain Prize,” a prestigious prize for brain research bestowed by the Grete Lundbeck European Brain Research Prize Foundation in Copenhagen.

The research on mirror neurons conducted by Prof. Rizzolatti has also drawn the attention of scholars in the social sciences and economics, as it promises to open important channels of exploration for significant phenomena within contexts involving interaction between individuals (for example, the processes of imitation, empathy, learning, building expectations regarding others’ behavior, and the ability to cooperate).

The event will therefore be an opportunity to think about the mechanisms that control our mental processes, as well as their implications for the field of organizational sciences.
