Starting in September, Luca Maestri, a LUISS graduate in Economics, will be Chief Financial Officer at Apple.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree from LUISS, Maestri earned a master’s degree in Science of Management from Boston University. He has worked for several companies, including Xerox and Nokia-Siemens, and he managed the financial operations of the General Motors group in Europe for a number of years. He joined Apple in March 2013, at the age of 49, as corporate controller and was quickly promoted to vice president of Finance. According to The Verge, Maestri seems to be one of the major reasons why the company has begun buying back its stock.

Tim Cook, the CEO of the company founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, knew when he met Maestri that he would become the next CFO. “Luca has over 25 years of global experience in senior financial management and I am confident he will be a great CFO at Apple,” was the CEO’s comment regarding the appointment.

"We take immense pride in his accomplishments,” said the General Director of LUISS, Giovanni Lo Storto. “Luca has lived and worked in many countries, and the model that we teach at our university is something that he has now taken abroad."

Luca Maestri will take over from the current CFO, Peter Oppenheimer, who is retiring in September.
