Luiss graduate, Ada Maria Barone, first pursued her Bachelor's Degree in Economy and Management, followed by a Master's Degree in Management. From there, she remained at Luiss to study for her Ph.D. in Management, focusing on consumer behavior.
Dott. Barone remarks that one of the hallmarks of Luiss programs combining social sciences with business studies allowed her to really round out her education in unique ways. "Even though we were largely looking at market research, my doctoral study was in the Management field. The college is well-suited for exposing us to theories or applications taken from diverse contexts. And from here, it facilitates the formation of new ideas and applications to pursue."
After beginning her doctoral studies here in Italy, Ada Maria decided to work and study as a guest student first at the Marketing Department in the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, and then at Aarhus University, in Denmark. She has remained in Denmark for her PostDoc position in the Dept of Management at Aarhus University. As for her next steps? "Although I forsee a return to Italy, my home, I'd like to keep working abroad over the next few years..."
"For me, the most memorable thing about Luiss was the tight knit group we created in the market research department. Having a group of professional colleagues - who were also close friends - during your university career was very important. It's actually not even a far-off memory...we're all still in close contact today!"
To any students looking to pursue a career in academia, she offers the following advice: "Be flexible, pay attention, and stay curious. And most importantly, prepare yourself for rejection – and how you'll respond. You'll have many opportunities for success, but oftimes, the results just don't come through. You have to not give up."
