This course introduces students to specific issues of funding SMEs and looks at the possible funding sources on the equity and the debt side. On the equity side, the program analyzes venture capital, private equity and initial public offers. On the debt side, the course focuses on the growing opportunities offered by private debt in addition to the traditional financing channel. The course also addresses specific features of evaluating SMEs as compared to larger established firms.

By the end of the course, students should be able to understand the specific funding needs of SMEs, the investment logic of private equity and venture capital investors, the process leading up to the Initial Public Offers and reasons for a firm to go public, and the main differences between bank debt and private debt.
