Along with prestigious European universities of economics and social sciences (Hanken, NHH Norwegian School of Economics, Ramon Llull, Tilburg University, University of Mannheim, University of National and World Economy, University Toulouse 1 Capitole, and WU Vienna University of Economics and Business), Luiss has joined ENGAGE.EU, an alliance meant to provide students with the necessary competencies and knowledge to face the next challenges of society, such as digitalization, artificial intelligence and climate change.
In this context, we invite you to refer to the Guidelines on Green Mobility set forth by the ENGAGE.EU program.
Within this alliance, a virtual mobility program was launched to allow students to attend a selection of online courses offered by the other partner universities with recognition from the home university.
The information herewith provided refers to the second semester (spring) of academic year 2024-2025.
Requirements for participating
Year of enrollment
The initiative is open to students enrolled in the a.y. 2024-2025 in the following year of study:
- Second or third year of a bachelor’s degree program that have completed at least 60 credits;
- First or second year of a master’s degree program;
- Second, third, fourth, or fifth year of the single-cycle degree program in Law, that have completed at least 60 credits.
Language
A minimum knowledge of B2 in the language of instruction of the courses is required to participate.
Compatibility with other programs
Students participating in other physical or virtual study abroad experiences during the academic year 2024-2025 may not apply to this initiative. The program is compatible with other study abroad experiences (Erasmus and Bilateral exchanges, Free Mover, Summer School abroad), previous or future. It is warmly recommended, however, that any student that wants to participate in another international mobility program in the future do not request the recognition of more than one elective course to avoid problems while defining their study plan abroad.
Available courses and application
Information on courses offered by each university and their respective application procedures can be found on: https://www.engageuniversity.eu/online-exchange-initiative/
Students will have to apply directly to the university of their interest by 15 December 2024.
For any partner university it will however be necessary to attach the following the documents:
- Transcript of records: a certificate of all the exams taken issued by the Student Office.
- Certification of enrollment: a proof of your enrollment at Luiss, already included in the certificate above.
- Statement of purpose: a motivation letter in which to indicate the reasons for participating in this initiative, in that specific university or for those particular courses.
Each student will be allowed to apply to only one partner university. Upon applying, students must inform Luiss of joining the initiative by filling out this form.
In finding courses to take abroad students will need to ensure not to have timetable overlaps with learning activities at Luiss and to possess the necessary prerequisites required by the partners for each course.
Also, it is not possible to select courses for which exams are expected to be taken at Luiss (proctored exams, distance exams at home institution) and not online at the partner institution.
Also, it is not possible to select courses for which exams are expected to be taken at Luiss (proctored exams, distance exams at home institution) and not online at the partner institution.
The admission to the program and to each course is in no way guaranteed and it is left to the assessment of the partner university. All admitted students commit to actively participating in lectures and activities for the selected courses and to carry them out until the end of the semester.
Costs
The payment of tuition fees abroad is waived. Some partners might, however, require payment for minor administrative fees. The student is still responsible for the cost of any books and materials required for the course. For further information we invite you to refer to the websites and factsheets of the various partners.
Activities at Luiss
Students participating in the initiative will be allowed to continue attending the remaining courses in their study plan at Luiss at the same time.
Recognition of courses
Each student can request the recognition of up to two elective and/or additional (corsi liberi) courses. It will not be possible to obtain the recognition of mandatory courses.
Elective courses are courses included in the study plan whose completion is necessary to earn the degree; additional courses are extra learning activities that a student can add to his or her studies to enrich it and whose grade (if taken abroad) does not affect the GPA.
To obtain their recognition as elective courses, the courses taken at the partner institution must meet the following requirements:
- Consistency with your own degree program.
- Must not be similar to other courses included in the Luiss study plan.
- Equivalency of the number of credits: a maximum difference of one credit will be allowed for Luiss elective courses worth 6 credits and for Luiss elective courses worth 8 credits. To meet said requirement it is possible to combine two modules abroad to obtain the recognition of a single Luiss course. In such case, to obtain recognition both exams must be passed and the grade will be the average of the two grades abroad.
In case of doubts about the correspondence of a specific course to the above requirements, students can contact the Student Mobility office at least 5 days before the deadline for the application of the partner university. Failure to comply with the above requirements will make it impossible to recognise foreign courses as elective courses.
The recognition of courses abroad must be requested within a month after passing its exam by filling out the appropriate form. After receiving the Transcript of records from the partner, the Student Mobility office will proceed to convert the grades based on the tables used for exchange programs or, short of that, of specific tables prepared on purpose. The converted grade will be made known by email to concerned students which will have 3 working days to reject it. After such deadline, the grade will be deemed accepted and the documents will be transferred to the Student Office that will look after the registration of the recognized courses with the title in the original language. Elective courses will be registered with the number of credits determined by the student’s study plan for elective courses whereas with the number of credits abroad for additional courses.
Please note that students participating in the program shall not be entitled to any bonus point when awarding the degree grade.
