Wednesday, August 5, 2015, fifteen LUISS students from Law and International Relations programs leaf Beirut, concluding their experience with the Italian Contingent based in Shama, Lebanon.
Thanks to a collaboration between the University and the Stato Maggiore della Difesa, students were able to have an up-close look at military operations in order to learn more about peace cooperation missions.
Students underwent all necessary training in preparation for the experience at the Centro di Simulazione e Validazione (Ce.Si.Va) in Bracciano.
The students spent a week in the UNIFIL Sector West under the command of General Salvatore Cuoci, where they learned about several aspects of the Italian military presence at the United Nations mission. From day-to-day operations to military cooperation with civilian organizations, the students gained direct experience with various mechanisms that make up an international peace mission.
The group also had the chance to meet with Minister of Defense Roberta Pinotti during a visit with Capo di Stato Maggiore della Difesa, General Claudio Graziano; as well as Capo Missione Comandante delle Forze di UNIFIL, General Luciano Portolano and Lenanese forces.
During their stay, the students had the opportunity to visit the city of Qana and Roman ruins in Tiro, where they also participated in a Maronite mass and met with students from the Islamic university.
