Francesco Capogrossi set out from the start to pursue a degree in Jurisprudence, choosing Luiss because “It was the only university that allowed me to specialize in the field I wanted and to come out highly trained – in tax law.” Afterward, he went on to pursue a Master’s Degree in Economics, later pursuing an inter-university LLM at the University of London in International Fiscal Law and Trust.
Francesco is a tax attorney working at the office of Foglia & Partners over the last three years. “I mainly work on indirect taxation issues in international commerce, such as value added taxes and customs fees, but also handle HNWI clients and certain issues surrounding FinTech.” Recently, the young graduate was recognized by Forbes 100 Under 30 ranking – something he is very proud of. Although he says in part he owes it to his university experience and work: “Some of the merit goes out to the tributary training I had at Luiss, which brought me to an office in which there’s a constant flow of ideas amongst a group of top professionals.”
For Francesco, the years at Luiss were filled with great memories, but he is especially proud of the international exposure he received. In fact, while at Luiss, he was able to participate in the International and European Tax Moot Court Competition – a competition and trial simulation for international fiscal governance – as well as in the EUCOTAX Wintercourse events. “These experiences were not only fun, but offered an immense opportunity to dive in and see firsthand how things play out on the international field – they were really high level. It proved to be a pretty competitive environment, and at the same time, really international.”
Francesco offers his advice to students today: “Study hard and strive to stay on top of things – Never leave anything to chance and make sure you dig deep into the details. Tax law is perhaps one of the most technical fields to be in, in terms of law practice so you need to stay up-to-date, study and apply logic. Even the slightest change in the smallest detail can radically change an outcome.”
For the future, Francesco plans on continuing his work in tax law at Foglia & Partners, a place he finds gives him room for growth. “I now see how lucky I am and I want to continue acquiring new skills and in greater depth to apply to my day-to-day work,” he concludes.
