ANVUR (the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes) completed the publication of the results of the VQR - Valutazione della Qualità della Ricerca (Research Quality Assessment) 2015-2019, a national procedure carried out every five years and which provides an up-to-date assessment of the state of research in the various scientific fields. This third VQR exercise, covering the years between 2015 and 2019, evaluated over 182,000 scientific publications by approximately 65,000 researchers and nearly 700 Third Mission case studies, for a total amount of 134 institutions including 98 Universities.
Luiss ranked among top Universities in Italy for the quality of all personnel’s research related to all the scientific Areas evaluated, ranking 4th for the academic fields “Area 12 - Law” and “Area 14 - Political and Social Sciences”, 6th for the “Area 13a - Economics and Statistics” and 7th for the “Area 13b - Economics and Management”.
The results achieved by the Luiss Departments are also excellent: the Department of Economics and Finance ranked 8th in Italy for its publications within “Area 13a”, the Department of Law ranked 12th within “Area 12”, the Department of Political Sciences ranked 14th for “Area 14” and the Department of Business and Management ranked 16th within “Area 13b”.
As regards the quality of the Third Mission, Luiss classified 2nd among all private Universities, proving its strong impact on the social and economic environment in which it operates.
These excellent results confirm the evaluation already expressed by ANVUR following the Periodic Accreditation visit held in March 2021: the overall mark attributed to the University and Departments’ research and Third Mission quality policies was indeed “Very positive” (“Molto positivo”), the highest attributable grade. This evaluation contributed to the accreditation of Luiss as “Class A”, the highest of the four existing classes, assigned by ANVUR only to other 6 Italian universities out of the 90 evaluated.
