Is it possible to apply for the Shortening of programs if I have a foreign qualification?
Students in possession of a final foreign second cycle degree program who are interested in continuing their studies/obtaining an Italian university degree at Luiss may request an evaluation of their previous career to be admitted through shortening of program to take further exams to complete the part of the curriculum of studies not covered by the foreign qualification for the release of the Italian qualification.
The foreign qualification, whether first or second cycle, must have the following requirements (as indicated by Cimea):
- it must be an official second cycle degree program of the foreign system of reference, issued by an official and recognized academic institution of the foreign system;
- it must allow enrollment in the same first, second or third cycle degree program in the foreign system of reference;
- present the same nature and disciplinary elements of the corresponding Italian qualification;
- it must be comparable with an Italian qualification and it must be consistent with the contents of the degree program in which one wishes to enroll.
The requirements above affect all foreign qualifications.
It is reminded that only the applications which include the complete documentation will be taken into consideration: secondary school diploma with Declaration of Value or Certificate of Comparability of foreign qualifications compliant with current legislation on the subject, the official degree certificate including the transcript of records translated in Italian and legalized by the competent bodies and the syllabus of each teaching.
The Board Council assesses the admission, credits recognition and year of enrollment on a case-by-case basis, based on the documentation submitted and following the coherence criteria established by the Didactic's regulations.
When the exams are recognized, the number of credits foreseen by the Luiss degree program is attributed. In case of mismatch of credits, the Board Council may evaluate the suitability of the programs and, if necessary, request that an additional exam is taken, whose content will be determined by the adjunct professor holding the course, on a case-by-case basis.
Regarding grades, given the different university systems, the exams will only be recognized as validated (without indicating the grade). Any validated exams will not be taken into account for the purposes of calculating the weighted average.
The procedure for issuing the Equivalency of a foreign academic qualification is not envisaged, for which reference is made to the competent Authorities.
How can I verify that the pre-application procedure was successful?
Pre-applications for Shortening of programs will be examined by the Board Council and the students will receive an outcome by email within approximately 15 working days.
It is reminded that exams will only be recognised as validated with CFU without indicating the grade. Any validated exams will not be taken into account for the purposes of calculating the weighted average.
In case of a mismatch of credits, the Board Council may assess the suitability of the programs and, if necessary, request that an additional exam be taken, whose content will be determined by the adjunct professor holding the course, on a case-by-case basis.
