IELTS

Luiss University promotes and holds IELTS Academic test sessions in association with International House - Accademia Britannica Rome, an IELTS test center accredited by IDP Education Australia.

Usually three test sessions, along with the related preparation courses, are held in AprilJuly and November.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the most popular English language certification exams, recognized by universities, governments, immigration offices, companies and job placement agencies around the world.

The test assesses the four skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

The test is going to be “computer-delivered” at International House in viale Manzoni, 22 – Rome. Participants will be split over more dates and it won’t be possible to express any preference. All candidates will have the opportunity to take all four papers on the same day.

Please find below the calendar for the November 2024 session:

  • Monday, November 18
  • Tuesday, November 19
  • Wednesday, November 20
  • Sunday, November 24
  • Monday, November 25
  • Tuesday, November 26
  • Wednesday, November 27

Why take the IELTS test with Luiss

Taking the IELTS Academic test offers numerous advantages:

  • completely free 20-hour preparation course with a mock exam at the end, taught via distance learning by specialist teachers from Trinity School Accademia Linguistica. The course is reserved to students who formalized their subscription by paying the registration fee
  • a discount on the registration fee
  • International House personnel will handle administrative procedures in connection with registering for the test
  • free access, after completion of the preparation course, to an online module allowing candidates to practice the ability that they scored worst in during the practice test
  • the chance to take all four papers on the same day
  • the possibility to download Test Report Form (TRF) in pdf

Who can register for the IELTS test

Enrollment prerequisite

All Luiss students included off-track who, at the time of submission of the application, are regularly enrolled in a bachelor, master or single cycle degree program for the ongoing academic year.

Therefore, applications cannot be submitted by students coming from other universities who, at the moment of submission, are registered for a master’s degree program at Luiss prior to receiving their bachelor’s degree.

Language prerequisite

In any case, applications to take the IELTS Academic test will be accepted solely from students who have obtained a (final or interim) language level at Luiss equal to or higher than B2.4.

The language requirement is fundamental since the goal is to obtain a IELTS score of at least 6.5 - 7.

Students enrolled in a degree program entirely taught in English will be considered in possession of B2.4 level by default unless they have not achieved a different level within their studies.

The English level reached at the admission test, or any other international certificate will not be taken into account.

Ad hoc test

Students who do not meet the language prerequisite must take an assessment test to demonstrate a level at or above B2.4.

Furthermore, students who - despite having already taken the final English exam at Luiss before the summer exam session for 2023-2024 a.y. (May-June 2024) - have achieved a level that does not meet the one required, can take a level test.

Students attending English courses ongoing in Luiss, who are supposed to achieve an interim/final level before the application deadline, are not allowed to sit the assessment test.

The test (written and oral) is to be taken between Monday, October 7 and within 12 pm of Friday, October 11 in accordance with the set procedures and timing that will be communicated to the candidate.

The test result is only essential for assessing the language skills required to sit the IELTS exam. For this reason, after the test no certificate of English level will be issued.

Registration procedure

Step 1: candidature and checking of prerequisites

Students who wish to take the IELTS Academic test must convey their intention to do so by filling out the appropriate form online starting from 10:00 am of Tuesday, October 1 until noon of Friday, October 4 so as to allow the University Language Center to check fulfillment of the prerequisites (year of enrollment and language level).

In order to fill out the form you need to click the link below and log in using your Web Self Service credentials.

Apply here

The number of places available is limited, so students are advised to fill out the form as soon as possible and only if they are truly interested. To this end places will be filled on a first-come first-served basis taking into account the chronological order of arrival of the applications.

The outcome of the application will be communicated in the afternoon of Friday, October 11.

Students who submit an application will receive an e-mail on their Luiss account (@studenti.luiss.it) from the University Language Centre informing them whether their application has been accepted or rejected. In this regard, we suggest students checking their spam folder. In case students did not receive the e-mail, they are required to contact the University Language Centre in order to point it out.

Step 2: confirmation of registration for the IELTS test by accepted candidates

Accepted candidates must confirm their wish to take the IELTS Academic test by paying the registration fee.

Registration for the test will be confirmed solely upon payment of the registration fee.

Candidates will receive an email - @studenti.luiss.it - with the details of the bank account that the registration fee is to be wired to as well as the instructions required to enable International House personnel to proceed to register them for the test. We suggest students checking their spam folder. In case students did not receive the e-mail, they are required to contact the University Language Centre in order to point it out.

Step 3: “Test Day info” and online preparation module

Once registered all the participants will receive a "Test Day Info" from International House along with the date and times of the test. This message is automatically generated from the booking system so if you don’t receive the email, please check your spam.

In the same email, candidates will be provided with an online preparation module that will enable them to practice until the day of the test. We suggest students access the module once the preparation course is completed.

All other information on the test and IELTS rules is available on the Useful Information page.

Step 4: IELTS preparation course

The course, which lasts a total of 20 hours spread out over four days, is completely free of charge and it is designed to furnish the technical skills and tools necessary to prepare candidates to do their best in the four papers that the test consists of: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. During the last lesson candidates will do a mock exam, which will be corrected then and there with immediate feedback from the teacher.

The course will be held via distance learning on Webex platform in accordance with the following schedule:
