Luiss alumnus Piero Zagami, co-founder of Market Cafe Magazine, received the Kantar Information is Beautiful Award, the most prestigious award in London’s information design sector. The magazine won in the category of Visualization & Information Design. “Receiving this recognition from the visualizer community was a great step forward for our futures,” explained Zagami.
“We got the idea for the magazine three years ago, just chatting in a pub. Then we made it a reality, creating a ‘zine, an independent magazine, on topics in the sector. The Market Cafe Magazine targets designers and data journalists, big data experts and anyone else who is interested in innovative visual data communication techniques. The two editors of the magazine, Piero Zagami and Tiziana Alocci, find the most interesting and innovative projects in the sector and talk with the minds behind them to learn their secrets and what goes on behind the scenes.
“I started at Luiss in the Department of Political Science and then I stayed on to earn a master’s in Communication. In 2006, I flew to London to try and write a thesis that combined my two biggest passions: graphic design and political science.” What the alumnus remembers most about his Luiss experience was the chance to talk to professors in on the University’s campuses, outside of the classroom.”
Piero is currently an information designer in London and an independent consultant in the graphic design data visualization sector. He has collaborated with prestigious agencies, including Information is Beautiful and Beyond Words Studio. In the future, Piero would like to continue on his current path and offer workshops to help students explore the world of information design.
“To any student who is unsure about what they want to do, I would say not to exclude any possible career path. Don’t be afraid to create new blends of your passions and studies, because you could be pleasantly surprised.”
